Build A Cell
Teacher's starter kit
Problem
America is failing in Science Literacy, and budgets for education get smaller every year. Students have fewer and fewer opportunities to learn science with hands-on activities, and teachers have fewer and fewer resources for their students.
The Gift
With the Cell Project, students build 3D models of cells with colorful clay. Each organelle is built with a different color, and the cell is assembled from the inside out. Once the clay model dries, the students slice them open and examine the cross-sections. In stead of merely memorizing vocabulary, the students physically build a model of a cell and discuss the parts of the cell as they build, for a deep-learning experience. This kit will provide a teacher with materials and instructions to practice the activity, before presenting it to students.
