Cleft Palate/Lip
Problem
One of the problems with multiple births is that women frequently are not getting sufficient folate in their diets. Because of this, their babies are born with defects such as cleft palates and cleft lips-which can be on just one side or on both sides. It is not uncommon for these children to have spinal cord defects such as spina bifida as well. The cleft palate has to be corrected for the baby to get sufficient nutrition to grow properly-they simply cannot suck well.
The Gift
Your gift of $50 will help provide the needed surgery for these little ones to grow up healthy and strong. Just closing that hole will make a huge difference in their ability to get nourishment into their little bodies at a critical time in their lives. It will also make their lives later on much better since they will be better able to learn to talk and communicate with the world-something that most cleft palates find extremely difficult to manage. The ability to talk means that they can go to school, get a job, find a lifemate--all the normal things that you and I take for granted. Otherwise, they would most likely be relegated to being beggars on the streets. You are helping to save them from that.
